In 2017, myself and three students in my Hip Hop and Popular Culture in Africa course attended the Trinity International Hip Hop Festival at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Trinity College and the festival organizers provided the students with room and board. This year the students stayed in on-campus housing and it was a great opportunity for them to interact with Trinity College students.
Like last year, students attended panel discussions, workshops, and performances. One of the students stood out. He was a young man that often came late to class and was having some difficulty with the course. At the festival he became really involved. He attended EVERY single event and workshop. The student is in the School of Communication and was able to interview some of the artists at the festival, and exchange contact information with a few for follow ups. It was really a pleasure to see the students enjoy the festival so much.
